Bradfield Festival 2010
Bradfield Festival of Music has just released advance details of its June programme.
One particularly exciting highlight (amongst many!) will be on 23rd June when Pascal and Ami Rogé play a four-handed piano version of Gustav Holst’s Planet Suite.
The Festival goes from strength to strength and a wealth of musical talent is lined up for this year’s Festival that once again takes place in the idyllic setting of High Bradfield, Sheffield.
The success of the Festival is due not only to the quality musical performances, but to the venue of St Nicholas’ Church. The Church, which dates from 1487 and stands 860 feet above sea level, has a good claim to be the prettiest in South Yorkshire. Its acoustics are wonderful and enhance the performances of all artists. The venue allows for a capacity audience of just 300 persons thus providing a rare opportunity to experience performances in an intimate musical environment.
This year’s Festival has several showcase concerts with performances by international artists including Pascal and Ami Rogé, the Danté String Quartet, the Benjamin Frith Piano Quartet and violinist Matthew Trusler. The Festival features an array of concerts with music of varied genres.

Saturday 19th June 2010
The Sheffield Choral with full chorus, soloists and ensemble.

Monday 21st June 2010
The Benjamin Frith Piano Quartet

The Benjamin Frith Piano Quartet was founded in 2000 by the pianist Benjamin Frith and some senior members of The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, all of whom had a desire to explore the piano quartet medium. Since its formation, the group has appeared in concert halls throughout the country and has maintained a close connection with the CBSO Centre, Birmingham. During this time the group has performed the complete quartets of Brahms, Dvorak, Faure and Mozart.

conductor – Thomas DaveyThe Meirion Ensemble has been a regular visitor to the Bradfield Festival over the past few years under their leader Tom Davey, the Principal Cor Anglais of The Hallé Orchestra which is also the regular platform for the majority of its players. Pascal Rogé is one of the great interpreters of French piano music. His name is simply synonymous with the best playing of French repertoire in the world today.
For several years Pascal has enjoyed playing recital s for four hands with his partner in life and music, Ami Rogé. Together they have traveled the world appearing at prestigious festivals and concert halls.

“Matthew Trusler has been attracting the kind of praise normally reserved for a young Oistrakh” according the The Independent, and hailed by The Times as “an authentic though British virtuoso. Matthew graduated from Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music in 1998. Following the release of his recording “Blues”, the Daily Telegraph declared that Trusler assumes the Heifetz and Perlman mantle with ease. Matthew has been invited to perform as a recitalist and concerto soloist throughout Europe, Australia, Japan and South Africa.
Martin Rosco studied at the Royal Northern College of Music since when he has developed close links with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Manchester Camerata. He has appeared in the BBC Henry Wood Promenade Concerts on six occasions and has made over 300 broadcasts.

The Danté String Quartet

The Danté String Quartet were winners of the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award in 2007 and the Chamber Musician Section of the BBC Music Magazine Awards in April 2009. The group was founded in 1995 at the International Musicians’ Seminar at Prussia Cove, Cornwall since when it has been known for its imaginative programming and the emotional intensity of its performances.
