Home care proposed for cancer patients

Prime Minister Gordon Brown is to make an election pledge tomorrow promising free nursing care at home for cancer sufferers.

The proposals, which will affect 1.6 million people who have or have had the disease, would be part of a wider drive to reform community healthcare, giving people the option of chemotherapy and dialysis without having to travel to a clinic or hospital.

Gordon Brown reportedly aims to have the scheme fully in place before the end of the next Parliament.
